Winning Swings in Support of Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles

We recently participated in Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles’ (JBBLA) ‘18 Pockets of Joy Charity Golf Classic’, benefiting Camp Max Straus.  The golf tournament was created in memory of Dave Singer who always said, "You came into the world alone, and you're going out alone, but all the activity in between is creating memories, or 'pockets of joy'."  Raising awareness and funds for children served by Camp Max Straus, the event enables 1,000 underprivileged children from throughout Los Angeles to participate in a residential summer camp experience each year.  Ninety percent of the families participating in the camp live under the federal poverty line.

Our President, Richard Smith, is on the Golf Committee that organized the tournament for JBBLA.  In addition, the Bank had two foursomes playing in the tournament.  Curt Knabe of RCMI, James Pocrass of Pocrass & De Los Reyes LLP, Greg Forester of Forester Properties and Richard Smith of The Private Bank of California formed the Bank’s first team.  The Bank’s second foursome, comprised of Tom Harbolt of The Fuller Foundation, Glen Purcell and Larry Persons of Cobalt Construction Company and Nick Zappia of The Private Bank of California, actually won the tournament!

“It was a great day for golf with spectacular weather, “ said Nick Zappia, Executive Vice President of the Bank.  “More importantly, the event was a great success for Camp Max Straus and we were delighted to support such a wonderful organization.”    

Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles was founded in 1915.  Its mission is to assist underserved children, primarily from disadvantaged, single-parent homes, to achieve their true potential by providing "Excellence in Mentoring" through a myriad of programs and services.
